Feature Request: Snapshot Retention Set by Number of Days/Weeks/Months For Storage Integrations

Feature Request: Snapshot Retention Set by Number of Days/Weeks/Months For Storage Integrations
USE CASE: So that You are able to take adhoc snapshots with out stomping on your original BACKUP SLA (Application teams will absolutely love this). This feature is availble in a few other backup products. And I think would give veeam a competive edge in copy-data-management products.

Also, how about the option to remove snapshots when you delete a job. As it will just cause orphans if you remove a job. As veeam will never go do autocleanup since its set to Number of snapshots rather than days..

Hi Ryan, thanks for your request. Retention by days is already on our list - starting v10 Veeam B&R supports retention by days for regular backups, similar functionality for storage snapshots might be added in one of the future versions. As for snapshots deletion, then think of the regular backup job as well - would you want to delete backup files created by the job upon its deletion? Veeam B&R never deletes backups unless it is done according to the specified retention, to avoid unwanted data loss. Thanks!

Foggy, I see it as an opertunity there as well. Think of it on how when you delete a db in SQL it asks you if you just and to remove it or actually drop the database as well.

Yep, I totally understand the request, thanks. Currently, you can go and deleted the snapshots manually, if required.

Follow up question. @foggy How can you delete snapshots in veeam? As far as i see you cannot actually do this and have to go on the netapp directly... Id really like to be able to manage this inside of veeam after all it created the snapshot. Why is the next part of the lifecycle only manageable by the job. And when that job is deleted it doesnt clean up after itself or have any way of letting the customer directly do the cleanup.
