Full backup failed will next job be full as well?
I have two large VM's that do full backups once a week, both failed this weekend and one failed on its first retry. Due to the time the backup takes I had to cancel its second retry attempt. When this job goes to run tomorrow night which will usually be an incremental, will it attempt another full backup? If so, how can I prevent this?
I have opened a case for both these jobs and uploaded logs files so we can figure out why they failed.
I am running the latest version of 8 with the latest patch.
Thanks.

The next run will be incremental. Full backup will be attempted on the next day it is scheduled at.

For whatever reason, when it ran tonight, it tried to do another full, I had to cancel it. Is there a setting that is forcing it to complete a full?

Only full backup schedule settings that can be found in the job options. Can you tell me how the latest restore point is reflected in GUI? Isn't shown as inconsistent ("corrupted") by any chance? Thanks.

Seems I spoke too soon, if some VMs were already processed and valid data is contained in the VBK file, the next job run will create VIB file, where incremental data for those VMs will be placed, however, full data for VMs that were not processed during previous run will also be written there. I guess I meant the scenario where no valid restore points were created on the day active full is scheduled at.

Other than reconfiguring the job to forever incremental, is there a way to stop it from retrying the full job?

I don't think switching the mode will help either.

[MERGED] Full Backup failed. What happens on next scheduled
Hi All,
A really quick question.
Our Veeam Full Backup failed. What happens on next scheduled job? Does it try and do another Full or will it go back to the normal reverse incremental?
Only reason I ask, is that staff are now back in the office and on the production storage doesn’t take nicely to normal day use and Veeam trying to back up a full

Re: Full backup failed will next job be full as well?
Thanks,
But there seems to be slight confusion? Will it be an incremental or full?

Re: Full backup failed will next job be full as well?
It will be incremental, unless another full is scheduled for the day of the week when the next run is going to happen. Full backup created only if it is scheduled here. If the next run is scheduled on Monday, and you haven't specified Monday for full backup, then Veeam will create incremental.
Thanks
Thanks

Re: Full backup failed will next job be full as well?
This is definitely NOT the case, at least in some situations. As foggy already stated:
I can confirm this (unexpected) behavior here:foggy wrote: ↑Apr 12, 2016 12:07 pm Seems I spoke too soon, if some VMs were already processed and valid data is contained in the VBK file, the next job run will create VIB file, where incremental data for those VMs will be placed, however, full data for VMs that were not processed during previous run will also be written there.
Using Veeam 9.5.4a. I have a job set for periodic active fulls (First Friday of month) with many VMs in it. Last Friday (full day), the backup repo filled completely about half way through the job. So about half the VMs had a successful full backup, and half failed (disk full).
Yesterday, I expanded the backup repo. Last night the job started 'incremental' as expected. However, for every VM that failed the full backup on Friday, a full backup was created today (.VBK). For all VMs that were successful last Friday, an incremental backup was created today (.VIB). (Note: repository is set for per-VM backup files.).
The documentation sort of explains this, but not with much detail.
See https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... l?ver=95u4
Notice how the second day 'incremental' backup contains a full backup for VM2. This seems to be the case for a missed full backup too.

[MERGED] Backup forever active full bug?
Hello Guys,
Hope you are well during this period !
I figured out with a strange problem.
I have a forward incremental backup job with active full set up, the repository has the Per Vm option. During the active full backup some Vms has failed to be processed during all 3 job retries.
After the next job session I thought to find incremental backup files for the first Vms and a full backup file for the failed Vms.
Unfortunately not! I have another full backup for ALL of my Vms.
If some VMs still failed and a new session starts, I have a new full backup for all the vms ....
This process seems to be strange for me...
Thanks and Keep safe.

Hi Philippe, what Veeam B&R version are you at? Doesn't look expected to me - see above.
