FusionIO ioTurbine and Veeam

Post by mtylicki201 »

We are evaluating using a FusionIO card with ioTurbine caching software in out environment. Has anyone else done this type of solution and are there any issues with your Veeam backups. We would be using the Host based caching method and NOT the guest based caching method.

Thank you,

Hi,
I've never dealt with FusionIO software, only their card. But basically, as long as the caching software is in write-through mode and only accelerates reads, there's no issue with Veeam or any other software. If instead it's configured in write-back mode, so it also accelerates writes, the problem is that data are not yet committed into the vmdk when Veeam requests a snapshot to vcenter, so there are inconsistencies between the copy in Veeam backup and the running VM.
I've worked on the same situation with PernixData and wrote a couple of blog posts (plus one from my colleague), not sure FusionIO has the same powershell capabilities but at least you can learn more about the integration with caching solutions:
