Hi,
I would like to create GFS for my backup copy job. My backup policy is daily protection 7 days, Weekly full backup keep 4 weeks. Monthly full backup keep 12 months then yearly keep 3 years
On the wizard I set it as
1. Restore Point to keep 7
2. Weekly backup 4 (Sat as full backup)
3. Monthly backup 12 (First Sun of the month)
4. Quarterly backup 0
5. Yearly backup 3 (First sun of the year)
Am I configure correctly the retention policy?
Logically my repository will store last full backup + 6 days incremental backup file. Weekly full backup for 4 Saturday. 12 copies off full month backup and 3 copies of full year backup right?
How Veeam create the backup file actually? The weekly copy will create from Full backup + incremental. Then monthly full backup will take the 4 weekly backup combine as full or it actually create another full monthly backup file? Same apply to yearly?

Re: GFS Backup Retention Setting
Whenever a GFS point leave the standard Backup Copy Job chain it will create a new full for the standard chain and keep the original full as GFS point.
This logic apply for all of your GFS points as they are on different weekdays.
If they are on same weekdays, we keep only the fulls that are needed to cover the needed restore points.
