Help clearing disk space

Post by mveinot »

I'm the new sysadmin at our company and I've started receiving disk space warnings from Veeam about the system it runs on. I've checked and a large amount of space is being taken up by files named like 2016-02-28_Long_Term_Retention.zip stored in c:\ProgramData\Veeam\Backup\Long_Term_Retention

What are these (log files and data?) And can they be safely removed?

Any help appreciated,
Mark

Hello Mark and welcome to the community!
What is inside those .zip archives, what is their sizes?
If you are dealing with logs, you can remove them if you like to.
Thanks!

Hi Mark,

also look into the c:\windows\temp directory. Veeam uses this directory for temporary indexing data, that will be removed after a backup. I was told this location is hard coded, and for now can't be changed. When backup is failing, we saw some issues with veeam not cleaning up this c:\windows\temp folder.
