Issues with VM's getting hung with errors Failed to create VM snapshot

Post by william.bishop »

Case #07659847... I'm getting at least 2 servers per night (usually databases, but not always) that get the CreateSnapshot failed timeout another task already in progress. This begain after we upgraded our environment from 7.x to VMware ESXi, 8.0.3, 24585383 (vxrail). I've gone 2 years without any errors, and now its 2 a night. Eventually its going to have an impact to the entire city. Support sent me the KB1065, but these backup sets arent app aware. Is anyone out there seeing anything similar? Restarting the vms's is fairly easy, just doing it through the cli...but this is really killing us right now. Forgot to inclue, I'm on 12.2.0.334 (yes, I know, but the first couple 12.3's have had some negative consequences in my lab)

Please continue your investigation with our technical support team — this is not a technical support forum, and we cannot assist you without access to your infrastructure and debug logs.

Additionally, you can try reproducing the issue outside of your backup server by creating a snapshot of the virtual machine through vCenter and checking if the same problem occurs.

Thanks!

Was looking more for if people were seeing the issue with this configuration. And snapshots work fine, as long as we don't let veeam do them.

A quick search on the forum doesn’t reveal any similar issues reported recently.

Additionally, even with similar symptoms, problems can have different root causes.

Therefore, I still recommend continuing to work with our technical support team. I believe they’ll be able to identify the root cause after analyzing the logs from your backup and vCenter servers.

Thanks!

As I see from our internal system, the support engineer requested additional logs and suggested a call for further investigation, but you have not responded to him, and now the case is still pending awaiting your participation. On the eleventh, we sent you a follow-up message, to which you also did not respond.

As for this forum, it is not a technical support forum; the team behind it is not able to read debug logs or resolve technical issues, which is clearly stated in the forum policy. You can familiarize yourself with it when you get a chance.

Thank you for your understanding!
