I have 2 ESXi 6.0 hosts that are using 8GB USB boot drives, and these need to be replaced with larger drives before I can upgrade to 6.5. This is proving to be quite a process, and I am wondering if it'll be easier to just rebuild the hosts on new drives from the 6.5 installer, then add my VMs back in. Both hosts are using DAS storage, and each is the only host at their respective sites (small offices), so I can't use things like vMotion, etc.
I would need to:
- Remove the existing hosts from vCenter inventory
- Build new hosts
- Join them to vCenter
- Add existing VMs back into inventory
After doing all this, will Veeam view the VMs the same? Or will they have new morefs, requiring new Full backups, new Full BC copies to cloud?
Thanks
