Replication - How to increase allowed number of points

We have a major issue with a customer for whom we are doing a DR project. We ran into the issue with the maximum replication points allowed in VMWare being 28, however they need a 2-hour RPO for a dozen VMs with a 5 day retention, meaning 60 points. Veeam will only go up to 28 due to the VMWare max snapshot count, however we have found a way to change the VM configuration and allow up to 60. The issue now is how to allow Veeam to go more than 28 points.

Is the VM configuration change something that is officially supported?
The constraints for replication are well documented so just wondering how this was sold?

It was not made clear what sort of retention would be needed. It was unexpected.

Is the configuration change supported by VMware?

We found this is forums as well as VMWare itself I think. In any case, this is not a change we did to production, rather in the DR to see if it works.
Not important anymore though, the max of 28 points was eventually accepted by the customer.
