Hello,
first off a brief description of the scenario:
we use Reversed incremental jobs with retention set to 14 restore points, taken daily at nightly hours.
As we understand the Reversed incremental mechanism this would produce Backups that are only take one 'real' full backup on job start and after that just build synthetic fulls from there on 'till forever.
For sake of data integrity we want the job to take real full backups periodically, so we ticked 'Create active full backups periodically' and set the schedule to weekly on Sundays.
We expected this to just refresh the chain on Sundays. Instead it produced additional full backups to that of the actual day making the backup contain three full backups after the 15th day (2 from the Sundaily actives and one for the current day). Additionally for the Sundays we had not just the full backups but also reverse incrementals. Is this intended or did we misunderstood/misconfigured the backup?
best regards

Weekly active fulls fro reverse incremental mode is a bit overkill, we usually recommend one active full per 1-3 months.serverbu wrote:For sake of data integrity we want the job to take real full backups periodically, so we ticked 'Create active full backups periodically' and set the schedule to weekly on Sundays.
Active full starts the backup chain anew, crating brand new full backup file that does not depend on the previous restore points, so what you're seeing is completely expected.serverbu wrote:We expected this to just refresh the chain on Sundays. Re: Reversed incremental job with Active full backup set
Thanks for the clarification on that issue. We will reconfigure our Jobs accordingly.
