Servus Community,
we use a 6 socket Enterprise Essential license from Veeam Backup & Replication in a VMWare virtual infrastructure and in addition to our regular backup we would also like to store our backups to a cloud or an external backup repository server. We already have an Owncloud infrastructure and would like to use it for the cloud repository. Alternatively, an additional backup repository server could be used if it could be made available over the Internet, e.g. via VPN, and if the backups could be encrypted there.
The idea behind this backup is to have a backup in reserve in case of a disaster (fire or water damage etc.). The restore of data is therefore only to be expected in extreme exceptional cases, so the restore time plays a rather secondary role, but should also be possible in case of a total loss of the main infrastructure.
We currently use four of the six sockets. What license is required to use an existing Owncloud infrastructure or an external backup repository server for offsite backups? Would this be possible with onboard tools and how would we have to proceed?
I wish you a happy new year and enjoy your days off
Happy computing & Bye Tom

Re: Setup an external Backup Storage
Hi Pronto,
- you do not need additional licenses to copy your backups offsite
- you can use Scale Out Backup Repository in Veeam, and add an S3-compatible Capacity Tier for automatic offsite offloads(if your ownCloud supports S3 protocol)
- you can just add a Windows\Linux machine from ownCloud infrastructure to VBR console as Windows\Linux Repository and create a Backup Copy Job for automatic offsite offloads(requires IP connectivity, so VPN is a good idea)
Best of New Year for you as well!

Re: Setup an external Backup Storage
Hi ,
Regarding License - No need additional
To configure Backups to Cloud you can use any of below options
1. Use Scale-Out Backup Repository
2. Use the External Repository
3. Another Use windows / Linux repository from own infra to VBR server using direct connectivity such as VPN

Re: Setup an external Backup Storage
Servus Community,
okay, so there seem to be more viable options, what would you recommend for a remote site if you don't always have physical access to the remote site's data center?
Thx in advance, happy computing & bye Tom

Re: Setup an external Backup Storage
I'd go with Capacity Tier first, if S3 protocol is supported by your service provider. It's cheaper, more secure and easier to maintain option.
