VEAD alternative use

Post by emachabert »

Hi,

One of my customer is willing to use VEAD to restore part of its production Active directory (some OUs and users) on a test&dev Active Directory (different domain name) on which their developers can validate their code. For now he has been using ldifde export/import, he finds it pretty time consuming.

He wanted to use the "restore to " option of VEAD but it says it can only restore to source domain.
What could be the best way to make his life easier ? Using the "export to" option and then using the command line import as he is used to ? Any trick ?

Thank you

Any chance they could use On-Demand Sandbox for the code validation?

No, they can't.
1) there is no network connection between the two world
2) the test env must run for a long time (many days), with a weekly refresh

In fact, the "restore to..." option is misleading here. You have a UI with "restore to original.tld" and "restore to...", that kind of presentation would suggest you can restore to something else than "original.tld".
I also remember having read a weekly digest from Anton (or a post from Lucas, I do not remember) of a Customer using VEAD to migrate his users between two domains. Has it been allowed in the past ?during the beta phase for example.
