Veeam B&R Essentials with vSphere Enterprise...

Post by mc1903 »

Hi,

Please can someone clarify this for me...

I have a client who has 6 CPU's (3 servers) of vSphere Enterprise edition and a full vSphere vCentre license...

They have been sold (via a 3rd party) a Veeam Essentials bundle...

Will this work together..?

I am reading the Veeam Essentials FAQ and this question has me confused:
Does Veeam Backup Essentials for VMware require VMware vSphere Essentials?
No
Any advice will be gratefully received...

Martin,

Yes, it will work. Veeam Backup Essentials can be used with any paid vSphere Edition.

Thanks!

Thank you Vitaliy...

So, 3 further questions...

1 - The want to replicate VM's from their 3 Production vSphere Enterprise servers onto 3 new vSphere servers (vSphere Edition TBC - Essentials/Standard/Enterprise) to create a DR/BC environment... From a previous forum question I asked, I do not think they need any additional Veeam licenses on the DR site...

2 - Can Veeam backup/replication work with multiple vCentre servers - i.e. one in Production and one in DR/BC..?

3- If they want to add a 4th production vSphere Enterprise server, what options do they have for upgrading Veeam to support the additional server..?

Thanks again,
Martin

1. Veeam does not require any licences for the DR/target hosts. Only source hosts have to be licensed.
2. Yes, of course.
3. Given that Veeam Essentials is limited to 6 sockets max, they would need to upgrade their existing keys either to Veeam Backup Management Suite or to any edition of Veeam B&R standalone.

Hope this helps!
