Veeam freezes during backups

I have 2 replication jobs to place vmdk files from SAN to local datastore, 1 for each server that will store the vmdk's locally. Veeam is a virtual guest on 1 of the ESX servers. The veeam proxy is set for 3 concurrent tasks (less than the suggested 4 simultaneous) and will freeze up even if only the 1 task is running.

When the job starts and gets past the 'Creating Helper Snapshot' and then moves on to processing the disk, Remote Desktop to the Veeam server will stop responding. The server becomes unresponsive for 10-20seconds. If another job happens to be running at the same time for a file copy to our DR site or a replication to our DR site, the job will fail. Other jobs that are running locally typically can survive the freeze.

For other jobs that are backing up an ESX server, which the Veeam virtual guest doesn't reside on, and are connecting to the same SAN are able to process without any problem.

The ESX servers are vSphere 5.0 on top of Dell R710s that have between 20-30% utilization of CPU usually and is spiking to only 55-65% utilization during the backup job. Veeam is version 6.0. The jobs point directly to the ESX servers and not to vCenter.

As an additional note, attempting to open a console window to the server while it is frozen fails.

And a ping to the server address goes from less than 1ms to:
