I am running Veeam as a VM with proxies. Storage is VMware vsan. I am using hot add mode.
For the veeam backup proxy vm' does the SCSI adapter type need to match the vm's that I am backing up. The vm's are a mix and match of LSI and Paravirtual. I normally only use paravirtual but there are alot of legacy vm's still using LSI.
I read in an older forum post from 2 years ago the following "HotAdd will not attach a disk from paravirtual SCSI to LSI SCSI."
What is the best way to build the proxies? 1 of each controller? Is the 2 year old information still hold true in Veeam 11?
Thanks,
Peter

Re: Virtual Appliance Mode (Hot Add) SCSI Controller Type
It is a matter of VMware can mount a disk that ran from one controller to a controller of anothertype.
I think it is still best practices to add all controllers that you are using to each proxy VM to reduce potential errors. Or just add them when you have fallbacks to NBD mode or run into trouble.
Update: https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... ml?ver=110
There is no official requirement for this.
I found some suggestions from VMware to run PVSCSI as the controller type.

Re: Virtual Appliance Mode (Hot Add) SCSI Controller Type
Thanks for the quick reply. The VMware template that I am using to deploy these proxies uses PVSCSI for the C Drive. I will take your suggestion and add a D drive using LSI to rule out any potential future issues.
Thanks for the suggestion,
Peter
