Hello,
Following an incident on an Exchange 2016 server, the server was restored via a Nutanix snapshot which generated a clone of this VM.
How do we now get this clone backed up to the VM that is backed up with Veeam and thus keep the history, incrementals and retentions ?
I understand that Veeam is based on the UUID of the VM.
But what is the exact procedure ?
Thank you for your help.
Nicolas

Re: VM Cloned and VM identity in Veeam backup job
Hi Nicolas
Unfortunately, you can't map the new vm to the existing backup chain. When you have a new VM on Nutanix AHV, Veeam will create new backup chains for the backup job and the backup copy jobs.
Backup Job: The older backups will be automatically removed, depending on your configuration for Remove deleted VMs data after.
Backup Copy Job: The retention settings of the copy job will make sure, that the restore points of the old vm gets removed as configured (short term and long term).

I forgot to mention that VMs run on vSphere in the Nutanix environment and not AHV.
Is it the same logic?

Re: VM Cloned and VM identity in Veeam backup job
Thanks.
Yes, VMs on vSphere have a unique identifier called MoRefID.
A new VM looks like new to veeam and an active full of that vm will be taken.
There are some unofficial ways in the forum which involves database editing (Unsupported!).
If you have enough backup storage, just wait until the backups of the old vm are out of date and they get removed.
