I'm in a home lab environment and need a little guidance from the pros.
I'm looking to upgrade my vsphere host from 7 to 8. It hosts my veeam backup server. All is running good at the moment.
The issue is that i have an external USB drive hooked directly to the host that the backups go to.
When I try to vmotion the whole thing it says I can't because the USB drive cannot be moved.
So my plan is to:
1) Shut down the veeam server
2) Vmotion the compute resource
3) VMotion the system disk
4) Move the USB drive to the new host and add it as a device
5) Start the veeam server
6) add the usb drive
7) start veeam
Then i can do maintenance on my 7.0 host. (Note: I have a veeam replica on a 3rd host just in case.)
Anyone see any problems with this?

Re: Vmotion with USB Backup Drive
Hello,
I don't see any issues with this approach as long as the USB drive is detected with the same drive letter so that the migrated backup server can access the backup repository using the same path.
Thanks!
