vSphere 6.5 Update 1

Post by MichelZ »

Obligatory question I guess... when will vSphere 6.5 Update 1 that was released yesterday be officially supported?

Thanks

Has anybody tested Veeam Backup and Replication 9.5 update 2 on vSphere 6.5 update 1?
Will Veeam Backup and Replication 9.5 Update 3 include the new VADP/VDDK.

vSphere 6.5 update 1 went GA just yesterday, as we typically do with updates, we're going to deploy it internally and see if there any issues. As for the latest VDDK, yes, there are plans to include it in v9.5 Update 3.

I just tried it today and we had took a backup of Active directory and exchange.
everything seems to works fine, I've even tried to restore some files and it does works.

Well, "tested one tiny thing" and "has vendor support if anything goes wrong" are two completely different things.
You should never install something just because "it works in a very small test" without having vendor support if you care at all for your data...

Quotation from todays Community Digest:
... Clearly there are a lot of changes, so I don't recommend jumping this new code until our QC had a chance to perform full regression testing against these bits to ensure Veeam compatibility – they are on it already, and we'll keep you updated on the forum.

We haven't encountered any issues in our testing, so we're now ready to officially support this update.

Can we clarify that it's 100% supported and we will be able to field calls from customers with the update applied?

People are waking up to the digest and asking for clarification.

Thanks

And here's the reply I got from support last Thursday (August 10)...
"Currently, we're still in the process of testing the update. It doesn't have official support yet. So unfortunately there isn't much information right now.

I apologize for the inconvenience,"
Based on that I completed our production updates to v6.5(d) instead of rolling out Update 1 to our Dev environment. Based on internal change control policies it will be a while before I plan the Update 1 rollout.

Thanks for confirmation Gostev.

Sorry to get specific on the terminology.
We have strict controls in place, for us to run versions that are officially supported, and we need to report to upper levels of management the this affect.

Hi guys, does this also mean that Veeam 9.5 U2 now has official support for vSAN 6.6.1 (part of vSphere 6.5 U1)?
Thanks in advance!

"Yes, vSAN 6.6.1 is also supported." is this Veeam's official position regarding vsphere update U1 support? Comment on this thread?

There's another post on the first page that claims official support for vSphere 6.5 Update 1.

You are ready to officially support this update or you support this update - these are two different things.
