Quick question before opening a ticket, is there anything generic to check to see why a guest won't freeze, we have no capability of using RPC as we are credit card company with isolated networks so we use the VMware API VIX, When I test the credentials in the job I get the obvious RPC failure but VIX is sucesfull. I then run the job and every time I get the error.
Unable to release guest. VSSControl failed to freeze guest over Vmware API wait timeout.
We are V-sphere 6 update 2 all VM servers use hardware version 11 and the latest vmware tools

Hi Chris, better contact support directly, reviewing the logs for the particular reason will be more effective.

Failed to freeze guest over VMware API, wait timeout
I have possibly found something Strange. This may be a hint to others that the disk system does not work optimally.
We discovered that our SAN Hp-3par had a dead central processor. Our SAN was then degraded.
Backup of servers that had SQL services was tricky and gave error message: "Failed to freeze guest over VMware API, wait timeout".
This resolved when the defective central processor was replaced.
