VUL Question - Storage Integration

Post by lsanders »

Hi all. Quick question on VUL:

Scenario (simplifying it to understand):
  • I have 50 Virtual machines, so 5 x VUL packs = 50 instances.
  • I have 100 Volumes on the storage array, the 50 VM’s each on their own Volume.
  • I can do BFSS and all integration related activities fine for the 50 VM’s.
Questions:

I cannot do orchestration of snapshots for volume 51, because you have to specify the VM on volume 51 and it will consume a VUL instance, correct? (so snap-only jobs not possible)
What happens if I manually snapshot volume 51 from Storage Infrastructure tab, it seems it will work fine and is not consuming more instances?
What happens if I then want to restore the VM, on volume 51 with Veeam? Possible?

Thanks.

Hi Lourens, your understanding is correct, snapshot-only jobs consume licenses like regular jobs. Manual snapshots creation and restore doesn't require additional licenses. Thanks!
