Perfect, proof of concept customer, trying to sell 6x2 Sockets. Customer upgraded all 6 hosts to 2016 Hyper-V. About 40-60% of the VMs are backed up now with Application Processing dissabled.

I'm running into the same issues, but with a 2016 host and a 2016 guest (not a domain controller). Both host and guest have all available updates. I can back the VM up successfully after rebooting the host, but only once. Subsequent backup attempts fail until the host is rebooted again. Any ideas?

Cant add Hyper-V cluster, error "Failed to execute WMI query". But i can add single Hyper-V server. WMI is enable. What can I do to resolve this problem?

I'm still having the issues with Running Windows Server 2016 Hyper-V Host with Windows 2012 R2 guest which is a DC with Veeam application-aware processing enabled.
Veeam error: Failed to create VM recovery checkpoint (mode: Veeam application-aware processing) Details: Job failed (''). Error code: '32768'.
Does Veeam 9.5 Update 2 (9.5.0.1038) fix this issue ?
Or still waiting on Microsoft to release a fix for this issue ?

Just did another test with all the May CUs (on 2012 R2 DC and 2016 Host) and Veeam 9.5 U2, the AD backup still fails.

At this rate, I don't think Microsoft will ever fix the bug.

Maybe I'm in the minority, but all of my Hyper-V VMs are backed up using native Hyper-V quiescence. The only ones that use app-aware processing are SQL Server VMs where I need SQL Transaction Log truncation. I don't really see the benefit to using application-aware processing on other VMs.

I doubt this KB would update the integration services.

The components version from the .cab is 6.3.9600.17903.

The current version installed on my 2012 R2 DC is 6.3.9600.18398, which is the latest available.

I too have this issue on Windows 2k8 R2 running on a new hyper-V 2k16 host. As per an earlier post in this thread I have noticed the following:

2k8R2 VMs that are Exported/Imported do not have an issue with application aware processing after installing KB3063109.

Other VM's are too big for us to export/import from the cluster, so we decided to move one by restoring it as a new VM on the new Hyper-V host. This Win2k8R2 Exchange 2010 VM has the same error that everyone reports here, even after installing KB3063109. We now have the Error Code: '32678' error that everyone on this thread reports is fixed by installing KB3037623.

This update is not offered in Windows update on this impacted server (as many others in this thread have reported). Windows updates are 100% up to date on the impacted server. The vmbus.sys file is version 6.3.9600.18080. Application aware processing runs no problem on another Win2k8 server that has the same vmbus.sys file that was exported/imported.

I have now searched until my fingers started bleeding to find an offline installer package as per this post.

i have a short question. I have a Veeam B&R 9.5 U2 on a Windows Server 2012. Ths is backing up a Hyper-V 2016 Failover-Cluster. In the Hosts the kb3063109 is installed. I start before i Backup a Host the script from Salm (that shutdown the services and start them). With that workaround i can Backup the Hosts successfully with activated application aware processing.

Now my question:

Are those Backups i took with that workaround a reliable Backup or will i get in trouble restoring them ?

Yeah, I think MS choise not to have VMGuest.ISO created on Hyper-V 2016 anymore is a real miss. We've had a lot of issues with old integration services not being able to be updated. Thanks for the follow up. Yes just confirming the server has SP1 Installed. Also has KB3063109 Installed, which is the latest version of the integration services that I can find. Also has 100% of updates available for the machine installed.

In an act of desperation I opened a Veeam support case today Case # 02169813 - The lady was surprised that my exported/imported machines work fine after installing KB3063109, but my restored(new VM with new UUID) machine is bust.

2008R2: 6.3.9600.17903
2012R2: 6.3.9600.17415

Small update.

I ran up a copy of my prod edge transport server that we have been having trouble with. Made some mods so I could bring it online without impacting production.

Installed the Hyper-V integration tools that RGijsen supplied. Noted it took my vmbus.sys file to version 6.3.9600.18398. Configured a new backup job with application aware processing enabled. = Success.

Have scheduled an outage for prod now to make the same change. Will let you know if this has resolved the issues in prod as well once change complete.

I have several servers running 2012R2: 6.3.9600.18398 - and backups are succeding with application aware enabled.
I have 2 servers running 2012R2: 6.3.9600.18398 - and backups are failing with application aware enabled.

All servers have now been 100% patched and restarted.

I'm curious about this. Are there any advantages to using AAP over quiescence for systems not running SQL Server or Exchange? I thought maybe it might do something for other VSS writers like the DFS Replication writer.

Just an interesting note,

I have a server that Successfully backs up when I create a new Backup Job with Application Aware enabled and no other server is backed up. (So it is the only server selected in the job).
The same server that is included in my existing backup job with 5 others failed to back up last night and just now.

So im back to been stuck on, where/how can I get my server integration tools to 2008R2: 6.3.9600.17903. Essentially a downgrade now.

@nick.Rigas. -Im in a similar position, with some working, some not. The only difference is the ones that don't work are 'new' (veeam restored) Hyper-V machines. The ones that do work are export/import from a 2k8 cluster.

@Mike Resseler -Support was a waste of time. The tech was out of her depth and looking for any reason to close the case. She reviewed the logs, said she couldn't see anything wrong. We checked the VSS writers on the failing server, as soon as the tech saw they were failing she was just like, im closing the case. You need to call MSoft. About par for the course for the Australian Veeam helpdesk. I might have to open a support case at 3am and try get someone in europe, as the european veeam helpdesk techs have always been excellent.

So, back to my original question. Does anyone have a link to the KB or a VMGuest ISO with 6.3.9600.17903 version of the integration tools so I can get this 2k8 server backing up?

Also if anyone could shed any light on why a machine that is exported/imported works, but a new machine doesn't that might help bust open some sort of work around. FYI import/export machine is running 6.3.9600.18080 and runs SQL and completes a application aware backup no problem.

I have checked that site, downloaded the vmguest.iso The version of the tools in the ISO is 6.3.9600.16384. So it doesn't help.
