Backup Jobs and Backup copy jobs

Post by benio »

Hello,

I'm new to Veeam B & R, and I'm trying to achive this goal:
1. Local backup to LAN storage with 1G speed, with retention, lets say, 30 restore points.
2. Offsite (remote) backup, with local ADSL 100/3 Mb connection (download/upload) for having some kind of DR to some Windows station with 2-3TB local disk -WAN ling speed is about 3Mb upload.

My question is what is the best way to achive my goal?
1. Local backup job - Incremental or Reverse Incremental?
2. Remote Backup copy - direct or WAN accelerator?
and I need to finish the remote backup within night hours - from 10PM to 8AM, for releasing the internet connection for Internet browsing.

I have VMware 5.0 on site , with 5-6 small machines (less that 50GB) and one big machine about 500GB.

10x.

1) The backup copy job doesn't copy backup file as a whole, but rather synthetically creates required restore points in "target" location from VM data in source backup repositories. So, the backup mode used by the source job doesn't matter.

2) Given the existing bandwidth, WAN Accelerator.

Also, it might be worth seeding backup copy job first. The description of this procedure can be found here.

Thanks.

My "remote computer" currently on the local site and I did first backup using direct mode. Now I'll change to accelerator and give it to run a couple of days.
Basically what u r saying that it doesn't matter how I've created backup a copy job will take what's to be copied.

Do u thing it's will succeed to finish the copy job within night hours with current bandwidth?

You've already finished initial run, so, the following ones will be always incremental. It's hard to predict, but incremental run is likely to finish within 10 hour interval. Thanks.

Hi, Vladimir.

After our last discussion I did what u suggested me and everything worked just fine - after moving Windows 7 copy backup machine offsite it's worked perfectly for a week and now only (one of 6 VMs) one VM, the most important one, Exchange+DC+File Server, couldn't backed up and I get this error:

Code: Select all

02/05/2014 02:11:57 :: Error: The remote procedure call failed RPC function call failed. Function name: [InvokerTestConnection]. Target machine: [192.168.10.143].
02/05/2014 02:11:57 :: Busy: Source 3% > Source WAN 6% > Network 95% > Target WAN 0% > Target 0%
02/05/2014 02:11:57 :: Primary bottleneck: Network
02/05/2014 02:11:57 :: Network traffic verification detected no corrupted blocks
02/05/2014 02:11:57 :: Processing finished with errors at 02/05/2014 02:11:57
02/05/2014 02:11:59 :: Maximum retry count reached (5 out of 5)
Pls help!
