Cannot connect to Veeam Backup & Replication Server

Post by SVS »

Cannot connect to Veeam Backup & Replication Server! Allthough the Client can "ping" IP-Adress and DNS-Name of Veeam Backup & Replication Server and all Ports and Services are allowed between both Machines!
The Client is in an different IP-Subnet as the Server!

Hello SVS,
Veeam Backup and Replication Update 2 is required to let the VBR communicate with Veeam Endpoint Backups. It should be available later this month.

RE: Cannot connect to Veeam Backup & Replication Server

Post by jweave »

Friday afternoon we had installed the V2 update to our cloud connect server, we are now at 8.0.0.2018. This morning I am trying to connect my VEB to that server, and I am getting a "Unable to establish authenticated client-server connection. The server has rejected the client credentials. The logon attempt failed"

I had set up my account the same as I have for our clients (they dont use WEB, but they use cloud connect as their repository).

I had tried connecting with and without a domain. Users of CC do not use a domain.

I had to open some new ports on the firewall, which was fine. I am not sure what else I am missing, or what else needs to be configured.

Thank you!

Hello jweave,
If you have received an Update 2, please, check the permissions on the repository level as described here: Setting Up User Permissions on Backup Repositories

P.S. Direct backup from Veeam Endpoint Backup to cloud repository is not possible – you need to specify the regular repository and then use backup copy job.

Thank you for the update!

Do you think backing up directly to a cloud repository will ever be available?

You are welcome!

Based on the received feedback, there is a possibility that we include this feature in the next major release. Keep pushing

Hello,
How can we receive the update 2?
I am using the 8.0.0.917 and cannot find any newer version on my website.
Should I just wait for a few weeks?

Actually will I be able to backup my physical Exchange server to my Veeam Backup Server and then restore individual emails (although it might not be highly recommended)?

Thanks

Yes, you should wait till Veeam B&R Update 2 is available, should happen by the end of April.

If this is a standalone exchange server... It will work. However, please test first and check what your logs are doing.

After that, yes you can use the Veeam Explorer for Microsoft Exchange from the B&R Console to do recoveries.

But as we haven't tested these scenario's, please do a POC first before putting it in production

I will surely do it and let you know the result as I am surely not the only one dreaming of getting rid of another backup solution for the last physical servers.
