Error whwn backup up C:
Hi,
Get this error when backing up C:, backing up other volumes on the same server works fine:
Error: The drive cannot find the sector requested. Failed to read data from the file [\\?\GLOBALROOT\Device\HarddiskVolumeShadowCopy86]. Failed to upload disk. Agent failed to process method {DataTransfer.SyncDisk}. Exception from server: The drive cannot find the sector requested. Failed to read data from the file [\\?\GLOBALROOT\Device\HarddiskVolumeShadowCopy86]. Unable to retrieve next block transmission command. Number of already processed blocks: [18034]. Failed to download disk.
I have run chkdsk /f, sfc /scannow and diskshadow, found nothing wrong.
Any ideas!?

Re: Error whwn backup up C:
Opened a case, got quick answer, the solution was this:
For some reason your partition is bigger than volume can store.
Shrink you C: drive (using Windows Disk Management console) for 95 MBs and all should be nice.

Per-Anders,
Thanks for the heads up! Now, I want you case ID to check the exact reason of this behavior with QA team - could you please post your case ID here? Thanks

Re: Error whwn backup up C:
I'm running into this issue on the Free agent version on my home lab, trying to backup the OS drives on my home server.
The OS drive 149.02GB with 4 partitions System Reserved 500MB, OS C:\ 147.22 GB then 2 recovery partitions (480MB & 856MB).
What is required shrinking and how do i determine by how much?

Iain,
Can you scan the source disk for hardware failures via checkdisk (full scan is preferable)? If possible check the SMART stats on the disk as well.

Re: Error whwn backup up C:
Hi Dima,
All commands have been run to identify SMART status and checkdisk, no failures or errors reported.
However, the reason for the backup was to replace the drive and restore the OS to a SSD as seeing performance issues with the server (disk constantly sat at 100% at times).
So would not surprise me if the drive is dying.

Re: Error whwn backup up C:
Issue is fixed, disk manager did not show that there was a further small amount of unallocated space.
Used a small program to move the partitions and was able to resize the add the extra space to C drive.
Veeam agent now appears to happy and is backing up the data.

Re: Error whwn backup up C:
I jumped the gun, it managed to backup a lot further, but still failed with the same error.
At this point I can only assume there is an issue on the drive or one of the system partitions which is causing the error.

Hello Iain,
Can you please perform the same checks for your target repository (scan disks for hardware errors and check the SMART)? Thank you in advance!

Re: Error whwn backup up C:
Hi Dima,
Server had another reboot Monday. It appears since then the backup has started working.
It managed a full backup Monday, and a incremental yesterday.
Today though the 1st attempt at an incremental failed, and 2nd attempt also..

I will attempt the scan as requested on the destination disk and report back.

Re: Error whwn backup up C:
Hello Iain,
Thanks for the heads up. I'd also recommend to raise a support case as it's much easier to identify the exact root cause based on the debug logs. If you already have it - please share with me and I'll ask support team for a quick review. Cheers!
