What do I need for this?

Post by menced »

I want to have a server (2 cpu) with VMWARE and HA on another server (2 cpu), both pointing to a NAS.

I want to backup everything on another server.

I have only a server working at time(The first two are in HA), and the other is destination for backup. Is a Veeam Essentials license enough?

If i already have a essential license (used on another server), if i stop using that server, may i use it on this configuration?

In theory yes Essentials gets you the Vmware part taken care of.

Let me make sure I understand your scope. Sounds like you want a two host HA setup with the third host being used as a replica target?

If you want to talk in more detail pm me.

Yest. That's what i want. I would like to understand if i can move a license from an old server with veeam essentials to this new configuration and if it is enough.

If you have at least 4 sockets to cover both nodes of the small HA cluster, you can simply revoke the license from the existing nodes in Veeam console and they will be assigned to the new cluster during the first run of the backups or replica.
About the third node, it doesn't matter in terms of licensing if it's a replica target or a backup target, as Veeam licensing only counts source sockets and not target sockets.

I hope anyway that replica will not be your only protection method, and you will also have proper backups.
