Qnap NAS credential & best pratices for tapes

Post by nolme »

Hi,

I'm making test with B&R u3 under vSphere 5.5u3 with an IBM LTO 3.
I have 3 vms (2K12 R2 Std as DC, Win 10 Ent, Win 2K Pro).
Veeam is installed on the 2K12 server and the Veeam Tape Server too.
Despite what I've read before. The tape has been recognized by 2K12 without any problem.

I have a QNAP TS-439U RP NAS (firmware 4.2) connected to the Active Directory. There are multiple shared folders with size may be > 1 To. Tape size is 400 MB.

I've create a job which fails because of NAS authentication :
- I' don't remember where I've which credential to use
- The NAS is a Linux firmware but Microsoft AD authentication. So should I use the Linux local admin account or Microsoft AD account ?

Thanks,

Vincent

How this share is configured? As CIFS share? Is it visible from the tape server? What happens if you manually enter the UNC path to the share in the source settings of files to tape job ("Folder" string)? Thanks.

It's a CIFS share.
On the OS hosting Veeam B&R, I can access the network share using UNC (\\IP\Share).

On the Veeam job, in 'Files & Folders' section :
File or folder : "\\172.20.22.2\NolmeRS"
Server : This server
File mask : *.*

Size : Calculating...
(it seems it cannot compute size too)

nolme,

It might not properly get the size estimate due the complexity of the setup or lack of credentials on the Linux machine. Can you clarify, were you able to start a tape job successfully? Thanks

Your post let me suggest another test.
I have modified the job to backup the Public folder of the NAS where EVERYONE is set to R/W. The job is running well. Nearly finished at 18 MB/s.

Hi,
I need to open this case again.

Backup jobs are running well on the NAS (name : Nolme-NAS) using admin account except for 1 folder.
This folder (name : NolmeRSync) is filled with another account (name : rsyncnolme, member of Everyone) throw RSync operations (which don't need root account ^^).

Using Windows file explorer and the admin account on the Veeam Server, I'm able to access & create files in subdirectories of folder NolmeRSync.

Running job lead to errors:
- Building file tree
- Unable to enumerate files in folder \\Nolme-NAS\NolmeRsync
- All file system objects were skipped

So, can I set other credentials only for this job for this remote folder ?

Thanks for the heads up and glad to hear your update went smooth. You might need to add the proper creds to the VBR's credential manager

Hi Vincent,
when i start with F2T Jobs to backup data from our QNAP 2 months ago i get the same error: Unable to enumerate files in folder '\\NAS-NO\Software'
The share '\\NAS-NO\Software' contains 180 subfolders.
So, I've create an new F2T job and add all the subfolders from the QNAP share. :? After starting the new F2T job 179 subfolders where fine and 1 get the message 'Unable to enumerate files in subfolder '\\NAS-NO\Software\xxx'.
By this way i can find out, that the problem caused through an sub,sub,sub-folder into the share!
I delete the related data from the NAS (rather old Software) and after that i can backup the whole share '\\NAS-NO\Software' without troblems!

best regards
Dirk
