Volume does not have enough free disk space to create VSS

Post by Hakujou »

Hi,

I'm trying to use Veeam Endpoint with a Backup & Replication server.
However, Endpoint throws me this error while I try to backup (file level backup) : "08/05/2016 11:04:50 :: Error: Volume DATA (D:) does not have enough free disk space to create VSS snapshot ".

The volume has 555GB free (it's a 1TB disk) so it's not a free disk space issue.

Is this some bug with the software or am I doing something wrong ? Thanks for your help !

Hello,

Can you please tell us where your VSS snapshots are pointed to? Does this drive have enough free space?

Thank you!

Thanks for your fast answer. Here's what I did (sorry, the output is in French, as I'm on a French Windows...) :

Code: Select all

Volume de stockage de cliché instantané : (D:)\\?\Volume{000eee74-0000-0000-0000-100000000000}\

Take a look at Windows Event log for VSS related errors and try to create VSS snapshot manually. If you need an assistance with this, feel free to contact our support team directly.

Unfortunately, it seems that we can't create VSS Snapshots on Windows 10 using vssadmin...
Didn't saw any VSS related error on Windows Event Log, but I might have missed them.

Once you're able to create a VSS snapshot manually, Veeam Endpoint Backup will also be able to run its backup job. Since this error above is referring to lack of free space, then try to re-direct VSS snapshot to some other volume and then run the backup job again.

I'm not sure if there's a way to trigger it manually via GUI/command line. All documentation I've seen is for Windows Server, not Windows 10.

This is definitely not a free space issue. The volume is not even half full...

I'm sorry, but as it's my own personal computer, I'd rather have a procedure or instructions than giving full remote access to it...

SYSTEM user didn't had any rights on the drive. Adding them fixes the issue.

Thanks. I guess you have to open a case and ask our team to investigate the application logs. You can do that directly via VEB’s Control Panel > Support tab. Do not forget to post the case ID please.
