VM Configuration File Missing on Replicas
Hi - I notice on Veeam One it tells me some of my Veeam Replication VMs have the warning: :VM Configuration File Missing"
Is this normal. The replication jobs are working fine so not sure if this is an issue or not..?
Thanks,

Re: VM Configuration File Missing on Replicas
Do you have "VMConfigMissingEvent" event present on the events tab in vSphere Client and Veeam ONE Monitor Client? Btw, do replicated VMs have the configuration file (VMX) if you look at the VM home directory via datastore browser?

Re: VM Configuration File Missing on Replicas
Hi - yes, there is an entry in the Vsphere client for that replica that says: "Configuration file cannot be found"
However if I browse the datastore I can see a file with a .VMX extention.
I have manually started one of the replication jobs to see if that changes things on that particular VM but am doubtful it will help.

Re: VM Configuration File Missing on Replicas
If the VMX configuration file exists on the datastore, then we need to understand why VMware still throws this message to the event log, maybe it has something to do with full/incremental job passes?

Re: VM Configuration File Missing on Replicas
After running the replica job manually the job finished successfully and looking on the events tab there are no new warning messages but in Veeam One it still shows the same message but I am not sure if that is up to date or not. I refreshed the page but still shows as warning.
The VMX file is still present in the datastore browser.

You need to resolve this warning message manually, as there is no subsequent event telling that the VMX file is now present on the datastore.

Re: VM Configuration File Missing on Replicas
Ok Done - I am assuming if the problem persists Veeam One will flag it again?

Yes, of course. You can use Veeam ONE to track down any issues happening in your virtual environment. From my personal experience, I would also recommend you to look at snapshot size & age alarms, these alarms will help you to locate all snapshots that might affect your production VMs performance.

Re: VM Configuration File Missing on Replicas
Hi! I have the same problem. During Backup job I receive a message with an error "This event records if the configuration file (VMX file) for a VM can't be found". I checked Datastore - VMX file exists. In logs of VMware vSphere there are no Warnings. Why i receive that Warning message?

Please try to resolve it manually and contact support in case it shows up again later.

Do you see the event (see my 1st post) in the tasks and events tab at the time when this alarm is fired?Suzan wrote:In logs of VMware vSphere there are no Warnings.

Yes, "VMConfigMissingEvent" event was displayed in Veeam One when this alarm is fired. But i haven't seen it in vSphere.

[MERGED] VM Configuration File Missing
My VMs have this warning in the ONE console. This doesn't seem to make sense as the VMs wouldn't be able to run?

Re: VM Configuration File Missing
Hello Matthew,
VM Configuration File Missing warning is based on VmConfigMissingEvent vSphere event. This may be an indicator of a missing or corrupted VMX file.
Could you please check if you have this event in the vSphere client?
I'll merge your post with an existing topic which may provide a few additional tips.
Thanks

This seemed to clear up after rebooting the hosts.

Sounds like a bug on the edge of ESXi and vSphere
