De-dup/compression compared to Avamar

Hi guys,

We are considering a solution for a customer to replace Avamar with VEEAM backup. Currently after de-dup etc 30TB is backed up to Avamar. The actual amount of backup is 57TB.

Can we expect to see similar de-dup by using VEEAM? The new backup target will be a EMC Unity box.

With the limits that every environment is different, and data reduction results may vary depending on the actual content of the protected VMs, usually you can expect at least 50% data reduction by Veeam for a full backup. Incrementals are usually not reduced too much because they only contain already unique new blocks.
Also, by using the latest version of Veeam you can leverage Bitlooker and reduce even more the amount of data to backup for windows VMs.

Also, I'm curious what Avamar is backing up to. You say the new target will be an EMC Unity box. What is the current target? Is it Data Domain? If so, is DD Boost being leveraged? The target also has an impact on dedupe ratios.
