SureBackup Performance

Post by StephanG »

Hi everyone,

i have a StoreEasy 1650 with RAID5 connected via 1Gbit LAN to my "Devcenter" which has more RAM.
When i start my "Sharepoint Prod" to this Devcenter at first everything is ok.. but the longer this Lab runs the slower it gets. The transfer speed is at ~35MB/s.
Which is not enough for 6 machines ;)

I want to perform the CU Update there before i try it "live". Is there any way to fasten the transfer speed?

Best regards
Stephan

Hi Stephan, typically the bottleneck for SureBackup performance is the backup storage. So getting faster disks (with better random read capabilities) is usually recommended.

Ok. I will try to add more RAM to test it on the backup server to test the performance of the disks.

Faster disks for backup .. i cannot sell this ;) I have 12x4TB 7.2K in a RAID5 for Backup.

Adding more RAM will not help, since performance of the SureBackup jobs depends on the IOPs performance of your storage. Here is an existing topic with a similar question > SureBackup is very slow. How can I improve it?

Is there a diskspd command where i can test my storage?
Like this but for Surebackup? https://www.veeam.com/kb2014

I just tried with a technet standard 8k w30% r70% and i think i'm getting good figures.

Did not see that ... is the transport over SMB the same that VeeamAgent.exe uses?

C:\diskspd> diskspd.exe -b512K -h -d600 \\nas\share\VeeamBackups\Job\Job2014-01-23T012345.vbk

I will try it after my current surebackup completes
