Re: vm backup job and files to tape
You can create a file to tape job, using both backup files and general purpose files as its source. Thanks.

Re: vm backup job and files to tape
Hello,
It's what i'm using now.
But is it possible to use Backup to tape (not files to tape), to have vm jobs directly and another solution to put some files on tape too?
Thanks.

Nope, you cannot do that within one job. Thanks.

Re: vm backup job and files to tape
Correct, do the following:
- Specify "After this job" type of schedule for the backup to tape job
- Copy the commandline string provided at the last page of file to tape job settings
- Specify the string as a post-job command for the backup to tape job
However, what is the use case for this kind of setup?
Thanks.

Thanks a lot.
I want to use the possibility to backup only latest full backup to tape (reverse incremental) and use the possibility to put files on the tape too.

Re: vm backup job and files to tape
You can add a backup job folder as a source for existing file to tape job and specify .vbk as a file mask. This way, when the file to tape job reaches the backup job folder, it will copy only the latest full backup present there. Thanks.

Re: vm backup job and files to tape
I thought about it, but i'll make full backup every weeks, and with 10 restore points, i'll get 2 or more full backup in the repository.

Re: vm backup job and files to tape
Even though weekly full backup in case of reversed incremental chain seems to be a bit excessive, I got your idea. Two jobs appear to be the only option left for you. Thanks.

Re: vm backup job and files to tape
Thanks a lot, i'm trying this solution
Edit: you think just one full per month is ok?
Edit 2: Full backup take me less than an hour (i've got full flash storage, SAS connection, and direct backup with veeam)

Re: vm backup job and files to tape
Last question, and i'll be done:
The second job (files to tape) erase the first one (job to tape). What do i need to set on media pool to append the second job?
Thank you.

Yep, once a month or two is enough. You think just one full per month is ok?
Performance statistic is impressive, indeed.Edit 2: Full backup take me less than an hour (i've got full flash storage, SAS connection, and direct backup with veeam)
Do you only have one tape present inside a given media pool (standalone drive, I guess)? What retention and mediaset settings does the said media pool have? The second job (files to tape) erase the first one (job to tape). What do i need to set on media pool to append the second job?
Thanks.

Re: vm backup job and files to tape
I've got one drive with one Media pool.
In this media pool, i have 18 tapes without retention and media set is set to: create new media for every backup session.
I use one tape per day.
Thank you.

Re: vm backup job and files to tape
You need to change this setting to create mediaset once a day. This way, two jobs executed sequentially will use one media. Thanks.create new media for every backup session.
