Virtualized Backup Server option for 2016 Dedup

Post by VladV »

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone has more insight regarding which option is better for a Server 2016 dedup repository. Up until now I used General purpose file server, but now I see another option called Virtualized Backup Server. From what I read it is optimized for HyperV VMs using a VHD as repo residing on a the dedup volume.

Will this be a better option than General Purpose File Server?

Thanks

Hi Vlad,

Yes, this option is better. For reference... This is what it means in terms of settings:

* Priority optimization
* Default optimization policy: Minimum file age = 0 days / Optimize in-use files = Yes / Optimize partial files = No

* "Under-the-hood" tweaks for interop with virtualized backup type of solutions.

I discussed this with MSFT 2 weeks ago with the responsible PM for it, and he confirmed that those under-the-hood tweaks are generic and aimed at everyone and not at their backup solution alone.

Hope it helps

Mike
