Server frozen

Post by emad »

Dear,
I have an annoying problem that when backing up a clustered Hyper-V machine, the machine got frozen and i can not access it without canceling the backup .
while backing up a Exchange VM, no mails are delivered to recipient neither internal nor external.
While backing up a RDP server VM, no users can access it remotly.
I am using VEEAM B&R 9.0 and backing up to SAN storage.
Thanks in advance

Hello Emad,
Do you have guest processing enabled for that backup job?
Whay kind of proxy do you have off-host or on-host?
Thanks!

Emad,

Besides the items that Shestakov has asked you, what type of cluster storage are you using? SMB storage? CSV? Hyper-V 2012 or 2016.

One of the things that can cause this is redirect access on a CSV

Hi Shestakov,
Thanks for the reply. yes i have enabled guest processing, i have enabled both application- aware processing and guest file system indexing but honestly i don not know the benefit of enabling them.
I also use off-host proxy and also do not know the difference between it an on-host.

Thanks for the reply Emad,
Do you have any Monitoring tool such as Veeam ONE to check the host and VMs performance during the backup processes?
I would also suggest contacting Veeam Support for the further investigation since the described environment should work fine not stucking the VMs.

Once you do, please post your support case number here for us to follow the issue investigation.
As for monitoring, you can install free version of Veeam ONE to check host and VM performance. It would help to troubleshoot the issue.
Thanks!
