Dell poweredge 230 hungs when recovery environment loads

Hello

I am trying starting a bare metal recovery on a new dell poweredge 230. Recovery media and data is from older generation poweredge 230 . When recovery environment screen loads I have no keyboard or mouse input. Caps lock flashes on and off when pressed but nothing else works. Both keyboard and mouse works in bios. I have tried both bios and uefi boot modes with no change.

How you input devices are connected? Was recovery media created on this machine? Thanks.

Input devices are common usb microsoft branded basic keyboard and mouse connected via onboard usb ports. Recovery media was created in previous generation dell poweredge machine. I also tried making new recovery iso on my laptop inserting SAS drivers for controller. No luck so far. Both recovery isos freeze on recovery screen.

I will try and install 2008r2 directly on server, install all drivers, make new recovery iso in new installation and try to boot form it. I will update accordingly

I was thinking that only input devices are not working (this may happen if UDB drivers were not included to recovery media). Do you have any non-USB keyboard or mouse to check if that’s an input device issue or recovery media issue?

Microsoft 2008r2 official iso freezes without any input from devices on language selection. I am escalating to dell first thing in the morning. Seems a problem with the machine.

Hello

Problem was that recovery media and windows 2008r2 iso dont have USB 3 drivers. Poweredge 230 gen 13 only supports usb 3 ports. I added them to my original recovery iso by using nlite software https://www.ntlite.com/ . I also injected storage and lan drivers to old iso.
A bios setting needed for poweredge 230 generation 13 is a setting for legacy video memory otherwise display is lost when recovery media finishes to load.
