Cannot create a shadow copy of the volumes containing writer

Post by marius roma »

I get an error while backing up a given VM:

Code: Select all

Failed to prepare guest for hot backup. Error: VSSControl: -1 Backup job failed.
Cannot create a shadow copy of the volumes containing writer's data.
Cannot prepare the [NTDS] data to a subsequent restore operation.
Cannot process NTDS data.
Cannot create a backup copy of the BCD.
Cannot get [BcdStore] object.
COM error: Code: 0xffffffff
Other times I asolved the issue by rebooting the VM.
Is there a simpler way to solve the issue wihtout stopping the VM?
Regards

Hi Mario,

Restart is the simplest way to resolve bad state of writers.
Please try to go through these steps: https://www.veeam.com/kb1697

Also take a look at the Windows Event Logs for VSS errors.

Thanks!

Also check remaining space on the drives. Had this happen with a drive that had less than 1% free space.
