Feature Request - Excluded Mailboxes
I badly need to exclude some mailboxes, after I created a backup job and checked "Backup all mailboxes". Some unlicensed mailboxes were created recently and the backup job is now failing for them and each time sending me an e-mail notification about this benign error.

Gregor

Re: Feature Request - Excluded Mailboxes
Hi Gregor,
1. You should be able to edit the job again (disable it first) and then instead of choosing backup all mailboxes, choose only the correct ones (without those unlicensed ones)
2. In Update 1 we have changed the behavior of the solution when we come across those. We will now give a warning and not an error anymore. Update 1 should be out very soon

Re: Feature Request - Excluded Mailboxes
Hi Mike,
I just came across this after posting here --> veeam-backup-for-microsoft-office-365-f ... 55-60.html
A job option to "Exclude unlicensed mailboxes" may be useful. Due to the (historic) structure of our on-prem AD, it is easier to DirSync (or what ever it's called now) the entire OU etc to Azure...which includes the Administrator account. It doesn't require a mailbox so I'm not going to waste a license on it.
Just an idea...(now I really must get back to re-structuring my AD...ooohh a YouTube video of a kitten!)

Re: Feature Request - Excluded Mailboxes
Chris,
What surprises me (as you stated in previous post) is that you never had an error before. That was the default behavior pre-update 1. Hence we made it into a warning. But I understand your concern and will take it with me on the table for a next version (no promises, as always )

Re: Feature Request - Excluded Mailboxes
I would just like to throw my support behind this request. In our case, there are some rather large mailboxes that do not need to be backed up. Being able to just exclude those few cases would then allow us to not be concerned with changing the backup job when we add new employees/mailboxes.

Re: Feature Request - Excluded Mailboxes
Not to mention always to remember to add the mailbox to the backup job whenever a new user is created is very tiresom. Having "Backup all mailboxes" AND a simple exclude option is better than the implemeted feature as of now.
Just my two cents.

+1 on both the option to exclude certain mailboxes while keeping any new mailboxes automatically inclued, and not backing up unlicensed accounts.

Not sure if this feature is implied, but can a box be added where you've deselected some mailboxes but want all future new mailboxes to automatically get backed up? So you can exclude who you want but not have to constantly go in and turn on backups for new employees?

Re: Feature Request - Excluded Mailboxes
Hi Rnt Guy,
We are thinking in that direction indeed. A exclude selection that overrules the ALL mailboxes, but at the same time new mailboxes will get into the selection list. That is what you mean?

I have Update 1 installed and it still reports errors for unlicensed boxes.Mike Resseler wrote:Hi Gregor,

Hi Larry,
For now you should exclude those mailboxes manually by editing the job (disable first).
What type of mailboxes are those?

Re: Feature Request - Excluded Mailboxes
But I thought you said update one would change them from Error to Warning?
I'm not sure what you mean by type. They are all valid AD accounts, that were in our Exchange before we migrated, but were never assigned O365 licenses.

Re: Feature Request - Excluded Mailboxes
Also - There is only a manual INCLUDE option, right? So I have to select the mailboxes I want backed up? Then, if a new one is added, it won't be included automatically?

Re: Feature Request - Excluded Mailboxes
Hi Larry,
If you choose: All mailboxes, then new ones get included automatically but if you use the selection then they won't. We are looking into changing that so that you can select all mailboxes but exclude certain ones (and new ones get added automatically). But that is something we hope to have in our next version
So for those mailboxes that are unlicensed, they are basically mailboxes that are sitting in your O365 account but are disabled?

Well, not disabled so much as never enabled. They were created in O365 when we migrated, but licenses were never assigned, so they've never done anything as far as O365 is concerned.Mike Resseler wrote:Hi Larry,

Any update on when the reporting will change from Error to Warning, for non licensed accounts?

Re: Feature Request - Excluded Mailboxes
Fake disabled job can be used as a temporary workaround to exclude some mailboxes from the All mailboxes job. Just create a new job and add mailboxes you want to exclude into that job, once done All mailboxes job would skip them, because they are already in another one.

Re: Feature Request - Excluded Mailboxes
I just created a new job, added the accounts without licenses, saved it, then disabled it. I'm leaving now, but hopefully when I get in on Monday I will not have error reports from my 'backup all' job.Kostya wrote:Fake disabled job can be used as a temporary workaround to exclude some mailboxes from the All mailboxes job. I'm looking for this option as well.
I would also appreciate it if this feature were implemented.

Hi @saesch and welcome to the community!
May I ask which version are you using? As the ability to exclude specific objects from a job is already there.
And adding new users to a job can be performed, for example, by backing up groups, which are set up in O365 to include newly added accounts.
