Jobs failing due to low disk space

Post by DFA1979 »

A couple of our jobs are failing due to there not being enough disk space for Veeam to take a snapshot, we will be adding more storage but that will not be for a few weeks.

I have changed the snapshot location in hyper-v for the two VM's that have failing jobs to a volume that has plenty of space(currently 500 GB free). However, the job is still failing even after changing the snapshot location in hyper-v, is there anything I can do to get these VM"s to back in the meantime?

For now you could go to general options-> notifications and lower the "Skip VMs when free disk space is below" setting.

Can you check if you create a backup if the snapshot actually is being directed to the other location> It is a while but I seem to remember from the 2012 version that even if you change that for some reason it did not get applied

The job fails after 11 secs with the following:
Production drive C:\ClusterStorage\Volume15 is getting low on free space (15.8 GB left), and may run out of free disk space completely due to open snapshots.
Production drive C:\ClusterStorage\Volume16 is getting low on free space (4.9 GB left), and may run out of free disk space completely due to open snapshots.
Error: Skipping VM processing due to insufficient free disk space on drive C:\ClusterStorage\Volume16

So there is a problem on the CSV volume16 (and 15 is also not looking good)

I know you said that you were getting additional storage (I assume for the CSV's) but it might be interesting to contact support now. In all honesty, I don't know if they have a solution for this (although these guys are brilliant and I am always amazed what they can do...) but it is certainly worth a shot to help you solve the problem until the disk space issue is solved.

And please post the case ID here and the outcome. It will help others also (me to start with :-))

Thanks
Mike

Case # 02081900

Unfortunately it appears we are out of luck until our storage is upgraded.

For future readers > it is highly recommended to use Veeam ONE FREE version to monitor datastore free space and do capacity planning via built-in reports to avoid these kind of situations.
