Backup to tape best practice

Post by Tibor Holesek »

Hello,

In the near past we used Symantec Backup Exec to do our backup to disk and then replicate to tape. Usually our backup consisted of one full backup on weekends and all the others were incremental. The retention time was two weeks.

Can the same be achived with Veeam? Anyone has this kind of scenario?

Thanks in advance for your answers.

Basically you want to copy backups on daily basis. As soon as backup lands on repository, it should be archived to tapes. In this case, you can create a media pool with weekly media set and two weeks retention, also add a backup to tape job and point it to the newly created media pool. Don't forget to set "as new backup file appears" type of schedule for the backup to tape job. Thanks.
