File Level Restore - Maintain Original File Timestamp
Is it possible to keep the original timestamp of the file being restored?

Re: File Level Restore - Maintain Original File Timestamp
No, since restore is performed as regular file copy operation.

Re: File Level Restore - Maintain Original File Timestamp
I would like to request that as a new feature. I am pretty sure it is possible becuase if I copy a file from my windows desktop to a server, as a regular file copy operation, the original modified timestamp is maintained.
Thanks

Oh, I did not realize you are talking about modification date... that should not be modified.

Re: File Level Restore - Maintain Original File Timestamp
When I look at the properites of the file in the "Backup Browser", it has the correct original modified date.
When I actually do the restore, using "Copy To..." the restored file has today's modified date. I would expect to have the original modified date on the file.
Can you reproduce?

Re: File Level Restore - Maintain Original File Timestamp
How exactly do you perform the restore? Do you use native Windows file level restore capabilities, or do you use multi-OS file level restore wizard and restoring through helper appliance? We will try to repro.

Tools > File Level Restore > Microsoft Windows
Choose Virtual Machine
Choose Restore Point
..Opens "Backup Browser"
Right Click File > Copy To...
Copy File to Desktop, File has today's timestamp

Re: File Level Restore - Maintain Original File Timestamp
Hi Gostev, I also need to restore files and retain the 'Date Modified' property. Any feedback on this issue? Thanks!

Chances are this will be addressed in the next update, version 5.0.2

Re: File Level Restore - Maintain Original File Timestamp
Hi,
I'm having a similar problem.
I'm using veeam 5.0.2.230 and when doing a multi-os file level restore (from and to a linux server) I also have a modified time stamp on the files.
I could work around this problem by using ssh and tar but I could not find the root password for the appliance.
Are there any news concerning this feature or is there a way (an official way) to get that password?
Thanks,
Kristian

Re: File Level Restore - Maintain Original File Timestamp
Support can help with that. But have you considered enabling FTP option in the Multi-OS Wizard instead?

Re: File Level Restore - Maintain Original File Timestamp
Yes I tried using ftp but it poses some problems when restoring entire folders since (from what i found) ftp has no option to dowload recursively.
Should I contact support concerning the password?

You could use a file client like FileZilla.

With a FLR Linux, the permissions on folders are not kept.
The box « Preserve permissions and ownership » is checked. Only files have the right permissions...

You should open a support case for investigation. Thanks.

Re: File Level Restore - Maintain Original File Timestamp
If you contact support they can give you the root password for the appliance and then you can easily get your files with ssh+tar. This way permissions, owners and timestamps are kept.

Re: File Level Restore - Maintain Original File Timestamp
I have access to the Appliance. Is it possible to install rsync on this appliance ?kocher wrote:If you contact support they can give you the root password for the appliance and then you can easily get your files with ssh+tar. This way permissions, owners and timestamps are kept.
I would like to use rsync for restore folders/files with rights, ACL, timestamp...

Re: File Level Restore - Maintain Original File Timestamp
It might be worth trying, however be aware that any package you try to deploy will not stay intact after you power off the appliance VM, as it boots from a RAM disk.

Yes I know.Vitaliy S. wrote:It might be worth trying, however be aware that any package you try to deploy will not stay intact after you power off the appliance VM, as it boots from a RAM disk.
Do you know how to install the rsync package ?
FTP don't preserve rights I guess.Gostev wrote:Have you considered using the FTP option?
From Veeam support, no fix will be available for the version 5.0.2.230.

Re: File Level Restore - Maintain Original File Timestamp
Unfortunately, I'm not a Linux guy at all. I guess the easiest way is to use Kristian's method above, as rsync would most likely require some additional software prerequisites to be deployed.

Re: File Level Restore - Maintain Original File Timestamp
FTP will preserve rights if you use a decent FTP client. For example lftp with the "mirror" option will duplicate all ownership, rights, and modification timestamps. The syntax for the lftp mirror command is:jlsung wrote:FTP don't preserve rights I guess.
Code: Select all
lftp -c 'open -e "mirror <remote_dir_path> <local_dir>/" <remote_site>'
