Backup over WAN with limited bandwidth

Post by DennisT »

I'd like to do backups of our VMs to another location over the WAN. The destination has a 1GB connection, but the source is limited to 10MB (Silicon valley). I have 8-10 VMs I'd like to back up, so I'm looking at about 800GB of data. I would like to do these offsite backups nightly if possible. With the raw size of the data and the allowed time window (~8Hrs) I'd like to restrict what is transferred to just what has changed from the prior transfer.

Is there a way to do this in Veeam? I took a look at https://bp.veeam.expert/job_configurati ... thods.html and it appears that Veeam doesn't offer the tools to do what I want. I think what I should be doing is do a Reversed Incremental locally and then use some sort of a block level sync to the remote location.

Does this make sense or is there another method I should be looking at?

My recommendations would be to:

1) Backup locally and copy backups remotely via backup copy job
2) Seed backup copy job first to avoid long initial cycle
3) Enable WAN Acceleration for backup copy job

Thanks.
