Direct SAN not supported for Community Edition?

Post by danswartz »

So I wanted to try an experiment and switch to CE. I deleted the license from the registry, and confirmed I was now in free mode. I coincidentally have 10 VMs to back up :) I ran the backup and discovered that none of the disks could use Direct SAN mode - all failed over to NBD mode. I don't recall seeing this anywhere?

Is this with 9.5 Update 4?

Yes. 10 VMs (including a VCSA, which has a dozen or so vdisks just by itself) - none of which successfully did Direct SAN.

My guess is that you have to wait until the next server rescan happened. You can start this by going to the Proxy server that you use in tne Managed Server - Windows opbject area and right click "rescan".

Well, that's annoying. I just checked a weekly backup job that ran last weekend (before I did anything with CE - same thing - failing over to NBD. So CE is not germane, sorry for the wasted bandwidth!)

Ok then please check if the datastores are still visible at the Proxy server and please open a support case so that our team can have a look at the logs.

Looks like I need to open a case :( I did everything up to and including specifying manually the iSCSI datastore, and the B&R console confirms it is visible to both proxies and lists the correct number of VMs on that datastore.

I've opened case 03564739. I'm actually getting pretty good speed on the NBD backup (this is to a starwind VSA HA datastore), but I'd like to know why this doesn't work...
