[Feature Request] Oracle VM Hypervisor Support

Post by rmmead » 2 people like this post

I know this one is a long shot per the Veeam guys I chatted with at VMUG. We are one of the apparent few who use Oracle VM Hypervisor. It would be nice to be able to back it up the same way we can back up our VMWare hosts. I know that the OS Agents are available, but file-level isn't the same as block-level.

Our agents do block level backup, just inside the VM. In fact you have the choice, File or Volume Block level backup

But thank you for your post, it counts as a feature request. If enough people keep asking for Oracle VM support, we might consider it for future releases

See this topic for more votes for this (veeam-backup-replication-f2/oracle-vm-s ... 12084.html)
It's very frustrating that we have to pay £12,000 for Veeam Linux Agent license to back servers up on Oracle OVM, when we've already paid to license Veeam Backup & Replication for the CPUs on the host servers.

We're in the same position, in respect of Oracle VM and DB licencing.

Hi Jamie,

Thank you for your request. For now you could probably stick with using RMAN plugin for DBs and VAL file-level backup for DB config files and system configs.

Thanks!

We could use OVM backup too.

We have production project based on VMs in Openstack + KVM public cloud. Currently 170 VMs managed by Veeam Backup and Replication and Enterprise Manager + Veeam Agents.
I have started personal video tutorial based on community edition for small customers.
It is valid for KVM, Proxmox, VirtualBox, Oracle VMs.
In some nearest video I will show how to restore Windows and Linux KVMs from from scratch if it isn't possible to mount ISO/CDROM device.

Why do you posting the same text 4-5 times?
Promoting a self made video tutorial should be posted in the community pages:

And there isn‘t a community edition for small customer. If you are a service provider and you are using the community edition for your customers, you are not compliant with veeam enduser license agreement. It‘s not allowed to use community edition for „small customers“ as managed backup services. ;)

You are correct. We are using Enterprise Plus license for this project. We don't use community edition in any project as Service provider.

I am using community edition in my personal video tutorials. I want to show how to build data protection based on any cloud/workloads. Customer can start with community edition with self-support, then buy commercial license when grow.

That‘s ok, but you are not allowed to help the customer in that case. He needs a paid license before you can do anything on his backup server. The simplest backup issue needs a license if he needs your help.

My personal youtube channel is a free tutorial for any who start using Veeam products.
As Service Provider I didn't see any customer who using community version.

Hello,
it probably already works today with Veeam Backup for Red Hat Virtualization. It's just not supported. A supported way would be using agents.

Please continue your requests in this thread post443177.html#p443177

Merging this thread into the other would create a bit of a mess. So I lock this thread and you can continue posting on the other thread.

Best regards,
Hannes
