Veeam B&R Inheritance

Post by Sweemz »

Hi All,

We've inherited a Veeam B&R setup in an 'Appliance Model' or 'Simple' deployment i.e one physical server (Windows Server 2016) running the following:
  • Backup & Replication Server
  • Backup Proxy
  • Backup Repository Components
The setup is working flawlessly but we have our concerns over the security/resiliency of this setup.

We are looking to improve this in time via the 3-2-1-1 rule.

My 1st point of action is to get this data copied off-site via 'File Copy Jobs' to their DR site - currently provisioning and running up a repository at the DR site.

What is my best route in terms of storage file system? Can I run the DR server with a Windows OS/Linux file system or should I go full blown Linux?
I'm looking for a solution that limits my exposure (as we all are). So should the server at the DR site be off the domain etc.

Any pointers or articles would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks.

Hi Jamie, first of all, you need backup copy jobs, not file copy. As for the security-related questions, please refer to this topic as a start. Thanks!

Thanks @foggy I will check these out + you're 100% right, I was reading an article prior and had file copy on the brain.

Thanks @wishr I will check that thread out.
