Exchange server VM restore

Post by jcm888 »

I've only found one 5 year old thread on this where people are disagreeing with each other:
veeam-backup-replication-f2/instant-vm- ... 27887.html

I'd like to be clear on this should shit hit the fan at some point. Suppose my (single) Exchange server is hosed for whatever reason: Would restoring a recent application-aware backup of the VM be fine or is a recovery-mode installation still the best bet? I have successfully tested it with Surebackup but it would be nice to get a green light from Veeam support.

Hello,
for green light from support, you need to contact support :-) The forum is mainly run by product management.

The key factor is that the backup must be taken with application aware image processing. Then it works.

As you have a single exchange, this link might be a little bit overwhelming, but maybe interesting to read anyway: https://andyandthevms.com/tag/exchange- ... -failover/

Best regards,
Hannes
