Log rotation for GNU/Linux backup repositories

Post by wane »

We have several Linux repositories in use, which all write the logs to a separate partition under /var/log/VeeamBackup/. The partition has been resized several times now, and now each partition is 15GB. It seems that the logs do not rotate and the logs continue to grow.

(1) how do you deal with log growth?
(2) how can I rotate the logs? Quite normal with logrotate?

Hi Walter,

Please take a look at this KB, it contains the instruction for log rotation settings depending on repository type.
In case of Linux repositories, you can control log file size and the number of logs using the parameters: AgentMaxLogSize and AgentMaxLogCount.

Please make sure that you're running the version 10 to apply the settings from KB.

Thanks!

it appears that the logs are still not being rotated. The logs continue to grow, and in the meantime we have also moved to version 10a.
Here are the settings on the Linux repos:

Code: Select all

root@veeam-nas01 $ cat /etc/VeeamAgentConfig
AgentMaxLogSize = 15728640
AgentMaxLogCount = 8

/dev/mapper/veeamvg-lv01   15G     14G  2,0G   88% /var/log/VeeamBackup

Some of the files in the directories are months old, some are packed and some are unpacked.

- what are we doing wrong?
- can the data be deleted manually?

Hi Walter,

It's difficult to say what's wrong without real time analysis of your environment and logs examination. Could you please contact our support team and provide us with the support case ID?

Yes, logs can be deleted manually.

Thanks!
