ESXi 5.5.0 and Veeam CE license
I am using ESXi 5.5.0 Update 3 (Build 7967571) with licence VMware vSphere 5 hypervisor - expiration date: never. I installed Veeam backup community edition build 11.0.0.837. When I want to image backup so I got error: Current vSphere license or ESXi version prohibits execution of the requested operation.
Do you know why I got this error?? I know that I can't use free edition esxi but I have ESXi with license.
Thank you for explain
Lukas

Seems like you're using a free ESXi version. If you have a paid license, what edition does it have? Thanks!

Re: ESXi 5.5.0 and Veeam CE license
I paste below information about license. (I edited serial key preview)
vim-cmd vimsvc/license --show
[200] Sending request for installed licenses...[200] Complete, result is:
serial: xxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx
vmodl key: esxBasic.vram
name: VMware vSphere 5 Hypervisor
total: 0
used: 1
unit: cpuPackage
Properties:
[ProductName] = VMware ESX Server
[ProductVersion] = 5.0
[count_disabled] = This license is unlimited
[feature] = vsmp:8 ("Up to 8-way virtual SMP")
[FileVersion] = 5.5.2.0

Looks like you're using more sockets (1) than actually available in the vSphere license (0)?

It looks like you're using the free VMware Hypervisor which doesn't have the necessary API? Although it's free you still have to enter a license key after installing ESXi.VMware vSphere 5 Hypervisor

OK, guys. Thank you for explain. I find out that my license is only free version with never expire time.

This is what we've suspected. To enable the corresponding API you need to have a paid vSphere license - Essentials one will suffice. Thanks!

In addition to Vladimir's answer, you could use Veeam agents to backup your virtual machines.
Another topic, I would suggest to plan an update on a current vSphere version as 5.5 is end of support since some time.
