Re: Feature Request: Surebackup and Windows Agent Backups
Hi Dima,
Yes, exactly. Since the Veeam support engineer said that both SQL AO nodes must be running in the same SureBackup job (in our case 1 node is virtual and the other is physical). Therefore, the same SureBackup job must run for a VM backup + an agent backup. In other words, add VM backups and agent backups in the same Application Group and run this App group in a SureBackup job.
Thanks!

Re: Feature Request: Surebackup and Windows Agent Backups
Would just like to add my 2p here.
The data we are most concerned with restore testing is MS SQL.
Our SQL Servers are not currently virtualized.
Therefore we would really benefit from SureBackup for Windows Agent jobs.

Hello Conrad,
Thanks for sharing! Mind me asking if you are running Hyper-V or VMware? Thanks!

Re: Feature Request: Surebackup and Windows Agent Backups
Hi,
I'm also in for that feature !
I'm working with a full on premise servers and workstations network with veeam windows Agent. And i need to do checks regularly that backups are restorable. So i do it manually with instant VM in Hyper V environnment and it works fine, But, it'll save me a lot of time to make it via Surebackup ! Especially with App Group when AD + Software X with logon AD based need to be tested.
Veeam guys, please, think to us that are stucked in the past with physical servers

It will be very helpful for a lot of people to know if it's something that we can consider, i think
Thanks !

+1 from me,
we're in the process of rolling out the veeam agent on >1000 physical servers (both Linux and Windows) and sure would like to be able to use SureBackup to verify the recoverability of these servers. We need this to be an automated process which is why SureBackup is such a nice feature.

Hi Vincent,
Thanks for +1, noted!
Wondering if you can share a little bit more details on your servers park:
- what is % of Windows vs Linux?
- what is % of Static IP vs Dynamic IP(including DHCP reservation)?

Re: Feature Request: Surebackup and Windows Agent Backups
Hi Egor,
the numbers are a day-by-day value. The last report i have available is 573 Windows servers and 785 Linux servers. To be honest I hope these numbers will reduce over time as we virtualize more servers. But since we run virtuals servers for over 15 years I don't have high hopes for this be a fast proces.
All our servers (should) have fixed a fixed IP address.

Thanks for the feedback Lincoln. Are you interested in SureBackup support for Linux agent jobs as well or you are Windows-only shop?

Re: Feature Request: Surebackup and Windows Agent Backups
Hello Randall,
Can you please clarify what type of physical machines you want to validate via SureBackup job (Windows/Linux/Mac)? If you have Linux agents please let us know what distros are you using? Thank you in advance!

Re: Feature Request: Surebackup and Windows Agent Backups
+1 I have been approached by a customer who wants to test Hyper-V VMs with Surebackup as part of their backup and restore strategy, because his DC is not yet virtualised and only agent backup i suggested a quick P2V until this feature is released Windows only shop no Linux etc

Just here to drop my +1 off for this feature.
We preach 3-2-1-1-0 but we need this for Agents & Cloud VMs to help deliver this end to end!

Re: Feature Request: Surebackup and Windows Agent Backups
Currently our three big use cases:
Active Directory Domain Controllers: Currently we keep 2 physical DCs at each site so they are not dependent on storage or VMware, in addition to virtual ones. So while the virtual ones we can verify, we are unable to do the same for all domain controllers at each site.
Exchange: Currently our mailbox databases are using RDMs within VMware. This is a requirement for our storage vendor for some of the integrations we use. As such, even though they are virtual, we are backing them up as if they were physical using the Veeam Agent. But that means that we are unable to spin them up in a virtual lab environment or perform any SureBackup testing.
SQL: All of our SQL servers are virtualized, but a few have RDMs. Just like with our Exchange servers, we cannot verify these SQL servers as we are backing them up using the agent.

And if agents and Cloud VMs are possible, please allow Nutanix AHV VMs too. The backup files are there, they only needed to be started. If veeam cannot get the ip address from the restore points, let us configure it manually instead the automatic mapping in the virtual lab network
At the moment, i start all my Nutanix VMs once in a month in a instant vm recovery to see if they boot up (no powershell integration either for Nutanix AHV Instsnt Vm Recovery to vmware).

+1 from me as well.
our database server are physical. our application frontends are vms. To do a proper verification, we need to start both in the same lab. (client server applications)
It is also important to support NSX-T nics.
Those machines are big data server, so start from backupstorage ist really needed.

There's a good chance this will be included in V12.
