CDP and VM or host reboots

Post by lwarner »

Hello, when we have active CDP polices, what is the best practice for rebooting 1. the source VMs and 2. the hosts? Is it best to disable a CDP policy in either (or both) cases?

I was thinking in terms of routine mainenance for the VMs, such as installing Windows updates, etc.

For the hosts, same thing, where we might reboot a host if a patch is applied.

Hello,
the best practice is "do nothing" of the things of the things you mention. That would make the product hard to use in larger scale :-)

For an ESXi host reboot: VMware maintenance mode should be used. But that's a general VMware best-practice to allow smooth evacuation of the VMs.

Best regards,
Hannes
