CPU Licensing high core count

Post by Jozseft »

I have a the following VMware setup:

1 Server : 2 x CPU - 4 cores each
1 Server : 2 x CPU - 4 cores each
1 Server : 1 x CPU - 32 cores

I believe I require:

4 x Tier A license
1 x Tier B license for the 32 core CPU. Will this cover 32 cores ?

Can anyone clarify?

Thanks

Jozsef, yes, you need 4 Tier A licenses for the first two servers and I guess 1 Tier B license for the third one (better consult with the sales rep). Out of curiosity, what 32-core CPU are you talking about?

Thanks foggy.

Actually its for a client of mine.

After checking with them again it appears its a 16 core AMD CPU. The other servers are correct.
I really need to confirm the core count for this CPU will be covered. License team seem to think the same thing. I'd hate for license exceeded message to come up.

Anyone who can confirm this ?

Single Tier B license should be enough for that 3rd server.

New V6 licensing query

Post by mrbass3 »

[merged]

Hi all I have the following and I'm about to upgrade to Vsphere 5 and Veeam 6

all under single VM Essentials 4.1 and Veeam 5 (veeam essentials 6 skt Tier A)

Server A 2 x 6 core cpu 64Gb
Server B 2 x 2 core cpu 12Gb
Server C 1 x 4 core cpu 8Gb

But I've been given the ok to replace Server C at the same time and was going to buy a 2 x 16core AMD as its much cheaper than a 2 x6 core Intel equivalent - now I know in VSphere 5 thats ok and for veeam I'm likely to need a Tier B change but what exactly ? and what is the difinitive answer for 16 core? searching the forum of faq's doesnt seem to answer that question entirely (Tier B seems to imply 8-12)

Any thoughts

Paul

Hi Paul, you need to use Tier B license for your AMD processor. Thanks!

Does anyone know the licese requirement for a hyper-v single proc, 16-core host? Tier A goes to 6 cores I think, but not sure about tier b, etc.

I believe you should purchase a Tier B license for your Hyper-V server, but it's better to double-check it with your sales rep.
