VCloud Director Plugin

Hi,

We are planning to use the VCloud Director Plugin for our multi-tenant environment. So far everything looks good but some issues noted are below:

• Backup and restore of SQL transaction logs and application specific items would require Veeam(or proxy) having access to the customer environments/subnets. I believe this to be correct?

• Should we want to disable this functionality, is there a way to hide the option for our tenants? Having it present may cause confusion.

• Is there a whitepaper on how this is intended to work or has anyone utilised it? It seems to present a few complexities and even security concerns.

Hello,

1) yes, there needs to be a connection somewhere to store the SQL logs. Actually it's the log shipping servers, but yes, there needs to be some network connection to get the data out / into the tenant network for backup / restore.
2) If there is no network connection, then I would disable, yes
3) I'm not aware of any whitepaper. Log-shipping is similar to "agent-based backup". If the decision is "no connection", then this is "end of the story".

Possible I missed this option but where can I opt to hide the application aware backup functionality from our tenants?

Ideally I’d like them not to see this option just now until we consider it further.

still working on it (in my initial answer, I had in mind, that it can be deactivated like for normal self-service without VMware cloud director. There is no direct option for it, but I'm still waiting whether there might be some undocumented way)
