Heartbeat Alarm on reboot

Post by rjoffe »

I notice i get the heartbeat alarm any time i reboot a vm.

Is it possible to set the alarm to check multiple times (say for 10 minutes), and only alarm if multiple tests have failed ?

Alternatively, is it possible to somehow delay the alarm if the vm is booting or shutting down ?

Thanks,

Ron

Hi Ron,

If you open alarm settings, and check Rules tab, you will see that you can configure a suppress interval via parameter called "Missing", increase our default value to 10-15 minutes, should help.

Thanks!

I have Missing set to 1 Hour, and I still get it on a bounce.

Vitaliy,

I have also noticed a CPU usage alarm on boot up.

I have the rules set for:

Counter : CPU usage
Condition: Above
Warning: 90%
Error: 95%
Time Period: 1 hour

Thanks,

Ron

I too am seeing the same issue as the original poster. I've set the missing delay for up to an hour, yet when a vm is restarted using vmware tools, i get a heartbeat missing alarm within a minute. I don't think it happens when you shutdown/reboot from within the OS, only using Guest -> Shutdown or restart from the console view or vsphere client.

Also happens to my vmware view clients when view restarts a virtual desktop. but a manual restart doesnt seem to trigger it there either.

Hi David,

Yes, we've discovered an internal misconfiguration in delay detection mechanism for this particular alarm, this is going to be fixed in v6.

Thank you all for the heads up!
